Well there are many guides, for Ragnarok Private Server Creation.
I thought let me make some guide which will atleast make people who are desperate to make their own server, mean while here I will give only text based guide currently as many of you might be thinking of how to make server without making a deep image analysis, but i am sorry as I am figuring out best images to show how to do, but it will take some time as for now..
First of all which is important to know is what sort of the server is suitable to make ??
I would answer 'First make a LAN server, play in it, make it available in LAN so that you and your friends can play on it, Secondly get feedback from your team/friends about the server if you are satisfied then only move to the third step, Thirdly sort of suitable requirements see yourself where/which category you belong to, Category are like this: Starter, Moderate, Skilled'.
If you belong to Starter category then don't host the server to the world, just make the server on LAN, play on it work for customs, play on other servers, try to become one in their staff, try to analyze how the maintain the server,......
If you belong to Moderate category then host the server to the world, do remember not have customs, have only small community, try to be player friendly....
If you belong to Skilled category then be happy that you are at the final step where you can create good server, have nice customs, great community,....
Now the question comes How do I start the server??
First of all which search for Ragnarok client/KRO and Sakray client, they can be found here:
1)Google search
2)Bittorrent use this!! it is good for KRO/Sakray downloads
After you download them install first KRO and fully update it, then install Sakray and update it too. Please do keep in mind that if you have other RO client than the above be sure that you might get crossed with errors and eventually a bad crash with graphics.
Now u need a tool know to be as GRF, this helps you you to de-compress the contents and the data that is packed within KRO and Sakray clients, I mean data.grf and sdata.grf. Well the link to GRF file will be added later, or you can find one with the links which will be mentioned on where to find the server data package.
After you de-compress the contents of both the clients, you can have the items of your wish and put them into the separate folder and use the GRF too to compress/pack the contents into .grf
If you have some cunning or witty or smart personality you can just download any other server's data client have re-name into yours.................. Hey it was just a joke, ii was not really meant, but you can do it....
Next comes Cygwin.dll, don't worry this is currently present with the files which you download for server package.
Here come the prominence, Below are the links where server package downloads are available [ P.S only eAthena packages ]:
1) Santuary eAthena's Other page only for Server's latest compilations
2) Here this is where you can download, You might need to register before downloading
Well after you downloaded, just un-zip it to the folder where you have installed KRO and Sakray.
Follow these Steps:-
1) You can find a sequence of files and even folders, in which find a folder named ' conf folder '
2) Open Conf folder
3) Find a file namely char_athena.conf
4) Open char_athena.conf with text editors like : Notepad or others and scroll down until you fins this:
// Enable or disable creation of new characters.
// Now it is actually supported [Kevin]
char_new: 1
// Display (New) in the server
char_new_display: 0
// Maximum users able to connect to the server.Set to 0 for unlimited. max_connect_user: 0
5) Now change char_new from 0 to 1
6) Leave char_new_display and others don't change it, just simply save the file and close char_conf
7) Now find a text know as grf-files.txt and open it with text editors
8) If you have installed eAthena package in other folder or installed in the same folder where you had previously installed KRO and Sakray just note the location (copy the location). Well you will find like this inside it:
//-----------------------------------------
// GRF List
//-----------------------------------------
grf: C:\Program Files\Gravity\RO\data.grf
grf: C:\Program Files\Gravity\RO\sdata.grf
// You may add more in this format
// grf: data file path9) Now change the paths with the paths where you have installed KRO and Sakray ( Note:- KRO ------> data.grf Sakray -------> sdata.grf )
10) Ya since if you had made your own data as told in previous page than create a filename ' Sclientinfo.xml ' and place this into your data folder.
11) Open Sclientinfo.xml
OOPS sorry!!!! can't put the Sclient code here, you can get/download one or get one
from other server's data folder, just change Servers Name from theirs to yours and
address from theirs to yours, rest is given bellow:
12) Well if you want to make it a LAN server then put 127.0.0.1 in address line. 127.0.0.1 is nothing but its a direct connection between you ( your system ) and the server. It may be also noted that 127.0.0.1 is know as loopback address If you want to make your server available for the world then put your computers' IP and treat it as an external IP since many anonymous users connect to your server from the world.
13) If you want to be the Admin of your server then first go to the Save there find Save.txt open it then copy your ID paste it between
14) Now come to main eAthena folder there you can find 3 ( .bat ) files ie.. Character Server, Map Server and Login Server, run Map Server first then Character Server and at last Login Server.
15) Now as server is started u need a Ragnarok Client to log-in. Don't worry just Close the server.
Since you have almost done just go to :-
1) Santuary
2) eAthena
